Tuesday Rains Raise Lake Level

A pair of ferocious thunderstorms converged on the Lake Mille Lacs area on Tuesday, dumping a ton of rain on the area and adding roughly 4 inches to the lake level, according to the Cove Bay Lake Level Measurement Station.  Levels ranged from 10.52 to 11.25 feet over a 24-hour period.  However, if you take the two lowest readings from Monday and Tuesday, there was about a .37 of a foot rise in the lake level.  That raises the lake level to right about where we were after Ice Off.  That is significant in that we are usually experiencing significiant drops in lake level this time of year.  Several locals reported rain gauge totals of 2.4 and 3.1 inches of rain.  At one time Tuesday around 6 pm, visibility was less than 50 feet with the downpour.  The Izatys Mens Golf League was forced to suspend play, cancelling the league slate for the week due to the storm.  Despite the storm, aside from some localized flooding, damage appeared minimal from winds in the area and no hail was reported.
