The Mille Lacs Lake area offers four-season recreation!
Click on links and ads for more information on great things happening around Mille Lacs. Isle Bowl is open seven days a week. Some recreation options are one-of-a-kind. You’ll never forget the candlelight cross country ski/snowshoe courses offered at Kathio State Park and Father Hennepin State Park in winter. There are miles of snowmobile and four-wheel trails, featuring the South Soo Line Trail which runs through Onamia, Wahkon and Isle and goes all the way to Duluth. Plus, the lake offers great snowmobiling and ATV riding even in lean snow years.
If you like fishing tournaments, Mille Lacs is your sanctuary. From pro Walleye summer tournaments to the Perch Extravaganza and Ducks Unlimited events on the ice, there is a fishing tournament for every interest. Our partner, Mille Lacs Tourism, offers a great overall calendar of events that details whats going on weekly and has the maps and trail reports for snowmobiling.
- Come wind surfing as the large lake and stronger winds make Mille Lacs, Minnesota’s premier wind-surf lake.
- Come to Arctic Blast. This is the Minnesota Vikings snowmobile rally, which starts in Garrison on a weekend each February and has blast points to travel to around the lake. The event raises money for the Vikings Children’s Fund and it is a blast.
- Camp at either of the local state parks, which offer a bevy of rental options, equipment and fun activities year-round.
- Do the gift-shop trail. The south end of the lake offers neat shops in Onamia, Wahkon and Isle.
- Go hunting at one of the many pieces of state land surrounding the lake. You’ll want to check out the Mille Lacs Wildlife Management Area, south of the lake.
